On the evening of Wednesday 12 August 2026, Ireland will see its deepest partial solar eclipse since 1999 – and Dundalk is holding its own community eclipse party to mark it.

Hosted by Town Scientist and Dundalk Credit Union, join local science communicator Dr. Niamh Shaw and friends at Foresters’ Hall for a warm, family-friendly evening:

  • a short talk on what a solar eclipse is and how to view it safely,
  • help making your own pinhole eclipse viewer,
  • a free pair of certified eclipse glasses for everyone, and
  • a chance to meet local astronomer Brendan Owens and his solar telescope.
  • After the safety briefing, we’ll head out together to watch the eclipse as a community.
